Mathilde, Queen of the Belgians

Queen Mathilde was born Mathilde Marie Christine Ghislaine d'Udekem d'Acoz was born on 20 January 1973.  Prior to her marriage to the then Prince Phillipe, Duke of Brabant, Mathilde was a speech therapist.   She married Prince Phillipe, Duke of Brabant on 4 December 1999.  On 21 July 2013, Phillipe and Mathilde became King and Queen.  They are the parents of 4 children, Princesses Elisabeth, Duchess of Brabant and Eleonore, born in 2001 and 2008 respectively and Princes Gabriel and Emmanuel, born in 2003 and 2005 respectively.  Queen Mathilde is concerned with a range of social issues including education, child poverty, intergenerational poverty, the position of women in society and literacy.  She is the founder of the Queen Mathilde Fund and the Honorary President of UNICEF.
